One of the most fulfilling aspects of my work as a designer is getting to collaborate on passion-driven projects—those that resonate deeply with me. A project that stands out and fills me with pride is the Chapel Restoration Project (CRP) newsletter I designed for Trinity College Kandy. As an alumnus and someone who holds the chapel close to my heart, this initiative allowed me to give back to a place that has shaped who I am. It truly was an honor to be a part of it!
Designing for Purpose and Impact
For the CRP newsletter, I adopted a visually dynamic layout with a 7:3 ratio of images to text, ensuring that approximately 70% of the content is visual. I carefully chose to balance the design with enlarged and smaller images, using various grid layouts to showcase the beautiful restoration work and vibrant history of the chapel. The visuals really helped bring the story to life, and I’m thrilled with how it turned out.

Why I Use Adobe InDesign for My Projects
When it comes to creating impactful layouts like this one, Adobe InDesign is my go-to tool. It’s the industry-standard for magazine and publication design, and for good reason. InDesign provides exceptional layout flexibility, making it easy to experiment with different formats, grids, and compositions.
For this particular newsletter, InDesign’s capabilities were crucial. Its robust text-handling features allowed me to manage the editorial content with ease, while its advanced image management tools made it simple to incorporate and adjust visuals. The seamless integration with other Adobe Creative Cloud tools, like Photoshop and Illustrator, meant I could enhance the photos and graphics effortlessly.
Additionally, InDesign’s support for both print and digital formats is a game-changer. The interactive PDFs I created ensure that readers can access and engage with the newsletter across various platforms, whether online or offline. The program also offers excellent collaboration features, enabling smooth teamwork when working with writers and other creatives.
