Last weekend, I had the privilege of being part of the organizing team behind the EcoMatcher x B Corp™ activation at Havelock City Mall.
The initiative was built around something powerful but simple: restoring mangroves in Sri Lanka while giving contributors a way to digitally track the trees they help plant in 3D, for years to come. Seeing so many people stop by, ask questions, and genuinely engage with the idea was inspiring. It showed me that people don’t just care about the environment in theory… they want to be part of solutions that are transparent, traceable, and long-term.
What makes this project stand out is its dual impact. On one side, it supports mangrove restoration, which protects our coastlines, strengthens marine ecosystems, and benefits communities that depend on coastal resources. On the other side, it uses technology to build trust and accountability. Contributors can track the exact tree they supported, view its location, and follow its growth journey digitally… which turns a single action into a lasting connection.
For many visitors, the 3D tracking feature sparked the most excitement. It’s not every day that you plant a tree and can check in on it anytime from your phone. That sense of ownership, curiosity, and continuity matters. Because environmental action isn’t only about planting more… it’s about caring longer.

Being part of the organizing team taught me a lot. Most importantly, that awareness campaigns work best when they give people clarity on impact, not just messaging. When people can see, track, and understand the outcome of their effort, engagement becomes more meaningful and sustainable.
Sri Lanka’s mangroves need advocates, protectors, and consistent support. And initiatives like this make it easier for anyone to step into that role, even with a small contribution.
